MBB Board and Volunteer Positions 2016-2017

We are always thrilled to have new members who would like to help support our activities and peer support program!

  • Monthly meeting co-facilitator

  • Peer support phone line volunteer (one month a year)

  • Postnatal class co-facilitator (twice a month Sept – June)

  • Help out with World Breastfeeding Week events (August – October)

  • Organize a “Nurse-in” around town

  • Baby-friendly tent volunteer at Farmer’s Market, Folk on the Rocks etc.

  • Organize a summer "walks with babes"

  • Helping with other special events

  • MBB Board member (positions include: co-chair; secretary; treasurer; directors at large)

Volunteer Opportunities

 

Peer Support Meeting Co-Facilitator

  • Facilitate and take notes at monthly support meetings

  • Coordinate logistics for meetings (pick up veggie & fruit trays and order pizza, set up, clean up)

Peer Support Phone Line Volunteer

  • Take MBB phone one month per year

  • Check messages on MBB phone at least once per day, respond to calls as needed

Postnatal Coordinator

  • Update / develop Post-Natal Class schedule in collaboration with Yellowknife Public Health

  • Attend and facilitate about two Postnatal classes a month (introduce MBB and supports provided, guest speaker, set up and take down) 

*must be available and willing to attend 2 post natal classes per month Mondays 1:15-3:00pm or assign another person (role can be shared among 2 volunteers)

Photo Challenge / Art Gala Coordinator

  • Develop photo contest themes, judging criteria, and timelines for photo contest leading up to Annual Breastfeeding Week (Beginning of Sept –  1stweek of Oct)

  • Coordinate printing of finalist photos for BFC / Art Gala

  • Coordinate logistics and volunteers for Art Gala as part of Annual Breastfeeding Week

MBB Special Events Volunteers (One / many)

  • Help out with World Breastfeeding Week events (August – October)

  • Organize a “Nurse-in” around town

  • Baby-friendly tent volunteer at Farmer’s Market & Folk on the Rocks

  • Organize a Get Active summer walk with babes

  • Help with MBB’s Eco Families event (April)

MBB Special Projects Volunteers (One / many)

  • Help develop a Breastfeeding colouring book

  • Help develop a breastfeeding calendar

  • Help with any other projects

Board of Directors: Executive & Directors at Large

We also have lots of great volunteer opportunities on our volunteer Board! 

(Co)-Chair

  • Organizes, sets agenda and chairs Board Meetings

  • Primary initial contact for health units and external organizations (HSS, YHSSA, LLL etc.)

  • Handles media requests

  • Ensures annual Societies registration is up to date

  • Primary MBB contact for all funding contributions; ensures contribution agreement reporting requirements are fulfilled

Treasurer

  • Issues payments, tracks MBB finances

  • Provides quarterly financial updates to the Board and an annual statement of operations

  • Provides annual financial statement for Societies

Secretary

  • Takes Board meeting notes

  • Manages MBB email account and forwards emails as required

  • Takes on other projects as needed

  • Responsible for promoting MBB and MBB events via Facebook and email

Director at Large / Executive roles

 

Peer Support Coordinator

  • Coordinates logistics for meetings (peer support facilitators to facilitate and take notes at monthly support meetings, set-up, food etc.)

  • Coordinates phone line volunteers, ensure hand-off happens each month, update and replenish phone binder forms as needed, summarize meeting notes and phone logs

 

Breastfeeding Week Event Coordinator

  • Coordinates volunteers and logistics for world breastfeeding week events​

 

Peer Support Training Coordinator

  • Work with Yellowknife Public Health to coordinate Peer Support Training in Yellowknife and across the NWT​

 

Resource Development Coordinator

  • Coordinate design and printing of MBB resources including T-shirts, posters, banners, pamphlets etc. as needed​

 

Community Outreach Coordinator

  • Provides support to peer support volunteers in other communities

  • Gets other communities engaged in Annual Breastfeeding Challenge and to know more about MBB

  • Connects with school boards / schools to determine interest in mom/baby visits
